Fiera Milano against child poverty
26/01/2018
The battle against poverty is a moral obligation for us all. An obligation which Fondazione Fiera Milano immediately chose to take on also thanks to the collaboration of its subsidiary Fiera Milano, which decided to make a solid contribution to supporting those who find themselves in difficulty. In fact, Fiera Milano decided to support the cause of “QuBì, Quanto Basta - La ricetta contro la povertà infantile”, a project organised by Fondazione Cariplo with the backing of Fondazione Vismara, Intesa Sanpaolo and Fondazione Fiera Milano, as well as the collaboration of the Municipality of Milan and some organisations of the Voluntary sector. Fiera Milano has thus become part of a veritable task force against a phenomenon which sadly has been on the increase in recent years. Combining efforts therefore to respond to the difficulties of approximately 9,400 families in the Lombardy capital that live in serious conditions of need. The Milanese trade fair company will be promoting the project and raising awareness among the visitors and exhibitors that flock to the fieramilano and fieramilanocity exhibition centres during fair days. Through communication activities Fiera Milano will also bring this issue to the attention of the people of Milan involved in the many “fuorisalone” events organised in the area and that animate the trade fairs. The first scheduled event will be HOMI, the Fiera Milano Lifestyles Exhibition, from 26 to 29 January in the pavilions of fieramilano.
During the event, Fiera Milano, using the available communication tools, will present the “QuBì, Quanto Basta - La ricetta contro la povertà infantile” project which, together with the city of Milan, sets out to write a recipe that will be able to provide support to families living in poverty and guarantee all children access to the ingredients necessary to build themselves a way out. A multi-year, 25 million euro programme which aims to get the whole city of Milan involved: companies, organisations and individuals will be called upon to sign an agreement that will allow for a concrete response to be made to families in difficulty and to create poverty-escape routes. Funders have already made available a total of 20 million euro, with Fondazione Cariplo allocating 12 million, Fondazione Vismara 5 million and Intesa Sanpaolo 3 million. Fondazione Fiera Milano has contributed a further 300,000 euro.
Some answers have been provided, by creating a network of the organisations of the Voluntary sector that have always worked in the field: the opening of the first Emporio Caritas in the city of Milan; the creation of two Banco Alimentare hubs which serve different areas of the city; a project conceived by Fondazione Pellegrini and Spazio Aperto Servizi which regards food, among other things, and gives poor families the chance to be placed in the job market and to have temporary accommodation.
To continue along this road, however, everyone’s help is required.
Because if a child goes hungry in Milan, it is everyone’s problem.
Everyone can play their own part in the battle against poverty: organisations, charities, companies and the general public.
